CREATE OFFICE OF THE PRINTER GENERAL, GOVERNMENT ADVISED
…URGED TO USE PRINTING PROFESSION TO CREATE JOBS TO STEM SOCIAL UNREST AND CRIMINALITY
…Mr. Koko T. Clement (MCIPPON) - while delivering his speech.
State and Federal Governments have been asked to establish the Office of the Printer General in order to ensure an holistic, close monitoring, and professional production of sensitive, security, and other essential print services to Governments at all levels as well as their parastatals and agencies.
…Chairman, ASSPPON Taraba State Chapter - Mr. Fatai Ibrahim welcoming guests and members.
This request was made by Mr. Koko T. Clement - Governing Council Member of Chartered Institute of Professional Printers of Nigeria (CIPPON) while delivering his speech as the Guest Speaker during the inauguration and investiture new Executives of Taraba State Chapter of Association of Professional Printers of Nigeria (ASSPPON) led by one of the State’s pioneer Printers - Mr. Fatai Ibrahim (CEO - Fatai Faib Printer). The event was also used to raise Ten Million Naira (N10million) fund to establish a printing material house in the State while also rewarding some print practitioners across the country for their untiring support to the Association, the Institute and the Printing Industry in general.
As the Coordinating Chairman of ASSPPON, Northern Region of Nigeria which coincidentally is facing a lot of security challenges, Mr. Clement in his appeal believes that printing not only comes with enormous responsibilities of transforming information into permanent form for mass production, preservation of confidentiality while generating revenue though empowerment, but the printing profession can also be deployed by the government to stem social vices and security challenges brought about by high employment. “Your Excellency sir, I will be happy if Taraba State will be the first State in Nigeria to create the Office of The Printer General. I had in other events such as this called on both the Federal and State Governments to create the Office of The Printer General. The Printing Profession has the capacity to create jobs to the teaming unemployed Nigerians and create wealth thereby reduce the menace of unrest and criminality among Nigerians. This profession has room for all kinds of youths, both educated and the uneducated alike as they could be trained on the job to man machines and work in the post-press section perfectly” Mr. Clement explained.
According to Mr. Koko T. Clement, printing - when properly harnessed - has enough room to accommodate the unemployed youths being churned out regularly from universities and polytechnics or idle residents in the informal sector due to the large value-chain in the act of printing; “there are about 15 or more areas to profit from in printing value chain” he emphasised as he also called on Taraba State Government to support the newly inaugurated State Chapter of ASSPPON and their members through Government patronage. He said; “Let me thank most sincerely a philanthropist and an achiever in the person of the Executive Governor of Taraba State, Arch. Darius Ishaku who today joined the league of patrons of this Association and the Printing Industry. I congratulate you sir. Your Excellency sir, this young Chapter needs your support, morally, economically and otherwise, particularly in this New Normal occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic. The printing profession is one of the most hit professions during this COVID-19 pandemic. The vast majority of our members depend on social and economic activities, which is yet to witness any meaningful activities due to fear of large gatherings. Also, Government activities have not been at its best at all levels due to restrictions, thereby limiting our members’ income to nearly zero. In the light of this, I appeal on behalf of this young Chapter, if there be any measures the Government can take to help reduce the hardship of our members occasioned by the economic effects of COVID-19 by encouraging and ensuring that Government printing jobs be spread among the members of this young Chapter”.
…Jalingo LGC Chairman - Hon. Abdulnaseer Bobboji assuring Printers of Government support and provision of conducive environment.
In his response, the State Governor who was represented by the host - Jalingo Local Government Council Chairman, Hon. Abdulnaseer Bobboji while congratulating the Executives and members of the newly inaugurated ASSPPON State Chapter pledged Government support to Printers in the State but admonished members to be united and focused in order to ensure growth of the association as well as their businesses; “You must speak with one voice. There must be unity and truthfulness among members and that will help your association and members to grow” he advised while assuring that Taraba as a stable, peaceful and accommodating State will continue to support businesses to grow in order to create economic prosperity for all citizens.
…newly inaugurated Executives of Taraba State Chapter of ASSPPON.
The newly inaugurated ASSPPON Taraba State is now officially part of the strong, united and country-wide cluster of Printers in Nigeria whose members are expected to henceforth enjoy numerous opportunities ASSPPON presents such as ideas and job-sharing collaboration, networking for cost-saving print production, collective advocacy and representation on matters of common interest, and human capacity building or on-the-job upskill to enhance professionalism; “Let me assure you that by this singular act, you have become a member of this one big family that has presence in all the six geo-political zones of our great country - Nigeria. As ASSPPON members, executing printing jobs anywhere in Nigeria will be easier as you will meet members in any of the geo-political zones” he assured as he however enjoined all Taraba State ASSPPON members to professionalise themselves and their businesses by becoming CIPPON members; “I urge all of you to become members of the Chartered Institute of Professional Printers of Nigeria. It is only by doing that, that you will be Professional Printers. It is good that you are members of ASSPPON, but the ultimate is to be Chartered. The association is good but CIPPON takes you to the top of your professional career, either as a Civil Servant or as a private practitioner. There is a window for now to all printing practitioners by the new Governing Council of CIPPON to admit new members and I advise all of you to key in before it is late. Note that, the Institute is Chartered by an Act of Parliament - CIPPON Act No. 24 which was passed into law and was assented by the then President - Late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua of blessed memory in 2007. Therefore, this profession is now of equal status with the likes of ICAN, COREN, and any other Chartered Institutes in Nigeria”.
